So, you’ve updated your Facebook business page and you’ve created an eye-catching cover photo, but have you given any thought to your profile picture and your About Section? Below are a few tips to create your profile photo and your About Section:
In the lower left of the Timeline cover is your profile photo. The profile picture is much smaller than the cover photo and should be representative of your business.
This profile image is the first thing people see, it is attached to all your postings and tracks your page throughout Facebook when you comment or post as your Page. For these reasons, it’s a good idea to choose your logo for your profile picture.
Edit your profile image to fit by hovering over the photo until you see “Edit Profile Picture.” Click there and edit to position the image so it is centered and clearly visible when attached to your posts.
The About Section is now more visible and is featured at the top of your timeline, directly under your profile picture. This area is exceptionally hot real estate, and should be used well as it is the perfect spot to highlight essential information about your business. This is an excellent place for contact information, URL, description of your business and the services or products you provide.
The information displayed under your profile picture is determined by the category you choose when creating your page. If you work virtually and have no physical address, choose the appropriate type of business, and there will be plenty of room for a thorough and detailed description of your business. This step is important because you want visitors to know exactly what your business is all about. If your category is “Local Business,” the default information is your business address, telephone number and business hours. The only way to avoid the default information here is to change the category of your page. Don’t change the category if you like your fans to “check in” from your location.
The About Section can be edited at any time. Click the About link, hover over the upper right-hand corner until you see the Edit button with the pencil, and click to edit your information.
Use this space creatively by adding a link to your website and by adding more information about your business. You’ll see that your Basic Information and Contact Information are also in this location and can be edited by clicking the “Edit” button on the right.
